4/4/13: Phish - the jam band that can sell out Madison Square Garden in the span of three minutes yet have never even had a top 10 hit - are at it again. The foursome have recently announced their 2013 summer tour, which features the usual stops in Colorado, New York and California - just to name a few. While tickets for the summer stint are selling as quickly as ever, the shorter-than-normal run has fans waiting with baited breath for the announcement of a summer festival.

Besides usual Phish business, frontman/guitarist Trey Anastasio has been keeping himself busy with even more artistic endeavors. The musician recently teamed up with Amanda Green to score music for the Broadway production of "Hands on a Hardbody," a play based on the 1997 documentary about "a bunch of poor people who compete to win a truck by keeping their hands on it for as long as possible," (according to the NY Post).

If this wasn't enough for Phish phans to cheer about, the band has also just presented their adoring followers with an opportunity to win some classic swag. In conjunction with Record Store Day, the band is asking folks to create their own interpretation of the classic 1990 album art, "Lawn Boy," in which drummer Jon Fishman is painted entirely in green. Winners will receive a Lawn Boy-themed package from Phish Dry Goods, including a copy of the new Lawn Boy Deluxe LP.

Phish was formed in 1983 by Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon, Page McConnell and Jon Fishman at the University of Vermont. The jam band noted for its improvisation has been performing for well over 20 years, with the exception of a five year hiatus starting in 2004. Phish reunited in 2009 and resumed all prior activities. The band does not get much radio play but it has developed a devoted fan base and has sold millions of albums and DVDs. Phish is known for consistently changing its set list in order to never have two shows that are exactly the same. Phish tickets are some of the most searched for on SeatGeek and we expect their live success to continue into the next decade. Indeed, the band has a reputation as a spectacle while on tour. Fans follow the group town to town, city to city and state to state in a true grassroots effort to help make them one of the hottest live acts in the world. The band has recorded 14 studio albums to date, including the latest project, 'Joy,' on September 8, 2009. In addition, Phish has continued a steady stream of live releases, including the ongoing Live Phish series. The original twenty-volume series was released by Elektra Records and launched during the band's hiatus from October 2000 to December 2002. Current additions to the series include download-only live compilations called 'Live Bait,' available as MP3s. Phish has been on the road at various points in 2012, and headlined Bonnaroo with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Radiohead. The setlist included covers of the Velvet Underground's 'Rock and Roll' and Kenny Rogers hit 'The Gambler.' The band will play through the summer, wrapping with back-to-back shows September 1st and 2nd at Dick's Sporting Good Park in Commerce City, Colorado.

Update – August 2011

The second leg of Phish's summer 2011 tour starts today with a two-night runs at the beautiful Gorge Amphitheatre in George, WA. From there, the boys will travel to Hollywood, CA for a sold out show at the Hollywood Bowl. On August 9th and 10th, the boys will play one of their most anticipated shows of the summer at Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys Stateline in Nevada. After that, Phish will make their way to San Francisco for Outside Lands Music Festival, where they will headline on August 12th. Alongside Phish, is a stacked lineup which includes the likes of: The Shins, Muse, Girl Talk, Arcade Fire, The Roots, STS9, Lotus, The Black Keys, MGMT, The Decemberists, The Original Meters, John Fogerty, Major Lazer and more. After Outside Lands, Phish will take a three day break before heading to Chicago for a three-night run at the UIC Pavilion. The boys will be taking the rest of August off, before performing a three-night run at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Colorado September 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

Update - Super Ball 9

Phish has just finished up their 9th music festival, aptly named, Super Ball 9. The festival took place from July 1-3 in Watkins Glen, NY. Super Ball IX featured many rare bust-outs and cover songs, and full set lists can be seen below. The festival also featured a "Ball Square Jam", which was a surprise set performed at 1:30 AM between the concert grounds and the campgrounds. Band members swapped instruments throughout the jam while the crowd was treated to a surround sound mix.
