Pixies Tickets - Band History

The Pixies are an alternative rock band that formed in Boston, Massachuesetts in 1986. The group consists of Black Francis (vocals, rhythm guitar), Joey Santiago (lead guitar), Kim Deal (bass guitar, vocals), and David Lovering (drums). The Pixies developed a cult following in the United States, and Pixies tickets sold quickly overseas, foreshadowing their international success. The Pixies are noted for influencing the punk rock movement of the 1990's, in fact, Kurt Cobain stated that The Pixies were a large influence on his style of music.

It is believed that statements like that made by Cobain helped revive The Pixies, who began touring again in 2004. Pixies tickets literally flew out of the box offices, indicating their large following by both old and new fans. The band's first album, Come On Pilgrim began its life as a demo album of seventeen songs largely referred to as 'The Purple Tape' due to the color of the album cover. In 1988, The Pixies released their second album, Surfer Rosa, which was certified Gold in the United States in 2005. Their next album, Doolittle was recorded in the last six weeks of 1988, and received critical acclaim. Their single, 'Monkey Gone to Heaven' was a top 10 modern rock radio hit. Following the release of Doolittle, the band began to argue and fight, causing them to take a hiatus. The Pixies returned to the studio in the 1990s to record Bossanova and Trompe le Monde. In 1993, the band broke up, only to reunite to in 2004 for a full-blown tour.

The Pixies set out touring through the United States and Canada. Pixies tickets quickly sold out. The band continued to tour, appearing at festivals such as Lollapalooza and The Newport Folk Festival. In 2009, The Pixies decided to celebrate the 20-year reunion of Doolittle and began touring performing the music from that album.
