Railroad Earth Tickets - All Aboard the Music Train

When one of New Jersey's most popular bands -- From Good Homes -- broke up in 2001, there was a wonder if bluegrass was going to stay big. Well, it did just fine. Railroad Earth was born in 2001 to take up the helm. It was back in 1998 when violinist Timothy Carbone collaborated to get a band going and recruited a man named Todd Sheaffer on vocals and acoustic guitar, another by the name of Goessling on acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, penny whistle, and saxophone, also John Skehan on mandolin, guitar and piano, drummer and percussionist Carey Harmon, and upright and electric bass guitar player Dave Von Dollen. BOS Music took the band on to carry the torch for the ever-loved genre of bluegrass music.

After releasing a few songs on an EP -- like 'Head,' 'Black Bear,' 'Stillwater Getaway,' and 'Cold Water' -- BOS Music had released a proper CD called The Black Bear Sessions in June of 2001. It was critically acclaimed. It was so acclaimed that the band absolutely had to release a second album in 2002 called Bird in a House followed by another album in 2004 called The Good Life. They kept touring, playing, and recording after that, making headlines in the bluegrass industry.

Improv was awesome with the Railroad Earth, traveling to different genres and even eras as they mixed the sounds of the Grateful Dead, String Cheese Incident, Phish, and Leftover Salmon. The Railroad wasn't just bluegrass, by any stretch. They lovingly kissed the genres of folk music, Celtic music, jazz, and even rock. And that was part of their ingenuity.
