The story goes, after waking up at 4 a.m. for an early shift at the shoe factory where he worked, to the sounds of Stephen Stills' song 'Treetop Flyer,' LaMontagne decided to quit his factory job and pursue a career as a musician. The son of an abusive musician father, LaMontagne made it a point of staying away from music as a child. But the soul was in him the whole time, as he struggled to finish school and moved to Lewiston, Maine, where he worked in the factory. Since leaving that job behind, Ray LaMontagne has recorded four albums. His debut, Trouble released in 2004, brought him instant success, especially the single 'Trouble,' which became a favorite cover on the TV show American Idol and was featured, along with 'Burn' and 'All the Wild Horses,' on the TV show Rescue Me. Two years later he released Till the Sun Turns Black, which was also a success, in the U.S. and Britain, where LaMontagne has a strong following. Two more successful albums have followed, and Ray LaMontagne shows no signs of easing up on the soul.
