Reel Big Fish Bio

Reel Big Fish is one the most well known ska-punk bands in the United States today. Since forming in 1992, Reel big Fish remained in the Southern-Californian underground ska and punk scene until they achieved mainstream success in 1997 with their song Sell Out. Sell Out was played on the radio, and quickly became an MTV favorite amongst teens. In 1998, Reel Big Fish gained more attention and followers after their appearance as the halftime band in the movie BASEketball. In 2006, Reel Big Fish lost their record deal with a major label, but has since pursued its music career as an independent band releasing albums, concert DVD’s, and touring extensively.

Update – August 2011

Front man Aaron Barrett remains the only founding member in the band today, and was recently stricken with unfortunate health problems. In June 2011, Barrett was taken to the hospital due to complaints of severe stomach pains. Barrett had to have his appendix removed due to health issues. Even more recently, in August, Barrett was once again rushed to the hospital for a high fever and abdominal pain. Doctors found an abscess of infected fluid in his abdomen, and were forced to remove it immediately to preserve Barrett's health. The abscess was a life-threatening complication that resulted from his appendix operation in June. Reel Big Fish was forced to cancel two shows last week due to Aaron’s health problems– one in North Carolina, and one in Florida. Aaron Barrett is recovering well, and as of 8/10/2011, no other Reel Big Fish shows have been canceled. Reel Big Fish will continue its summer tour with co-headliner Streetlight Manifesto.
