Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, aka The Righteous Brothers, became a sensation when they produced one of the most memorable hits of the 1960s, a song called 'You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin',' produced by Phil Spector. Bill Medley, with his deep, souful baritone voice, sang the low parts, while Bobby Hatfield, with his soaring tenor, took the high notes, and their duo sound was indeed righteous, a style all their own that no one else could duplicate. In fact, it was while touring with a doo wop R&B band, The Paramours, in the early 1960s that the duo adopted their name, when an audience member, after hearing them, shouted, 'That was righteous, brothers!' The name stuck. 'You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin',' which featured Cher on backup vocals, remains the most played song in radio history, but The Righteous Brothers had other successes, too, including a slew of singles in 1965, 'Just Once in My Life,' 'Unchained Melody,' and 'Ebb Tide.' After leaving Spector, with whom the duo did not get along, The Righteous Brothers scored another hit, '(You're My) Soul and Inspiration,' followed by the Top 40 hits 'He' and 'Go Ahead and Cry' before their popularity began to fade, prompting them to split in 1968 for more than six years. In 1974 The Righteous Brothers reunited and scored another hit with 'Rock and Roll Heaven.' A few more minor hits followed as The Righteous Brothers continued to perform and record, and Medley enjoyed his own success with a solo career.
