About Rod Stewart - An Adult Contemporary Icon

Once called rock & roll's best interpretive singer, Rod Stewart has crafted a career by fully embracing the adult contemporary label. Now a multi-generational icon, he has been delighting fans with his music – and distinctive raspy voice -- since the 1960s.

Throughout his career, which has spanned from his early work with both The Jeff Beck Group and Faces to a full on solo effort, Stewart has released 28 studio albums to date. All totaled, he has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best selling artists of all time. In the UK alone, the British singer-songwriter has had six consecutive number one albums, 62 hit singles and 31 that climbed into the Top 10 – including six No. 1 hits.

Stewart came to prominence in 1969 with his debut album, "An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down" (in the U.S. it was called "The Rod Stewart Album"). Yet it was his third solo effort, "Every Picture Tells a Story," that made Stewart a household name, climbing to the top of the charts in both America and Britain. The single "Maggie Bay" would hit No. 1 and stay there for five weeks. Other songs like "Tonight's the Night," "Have I Told You Lately" and "Leave Virginia Alone" would help Stewart span the decades as a hit-maker.

With material that has also touched folk, blues and country, Stewart has reaped the rewards of longevity. In 2008, Billboard magazine ranked him the 17th most successful artist on the "The Billboard Hot 100Top All-Time Artists". A Grammy and Brit Award recipient, he was No. 33 in Q Magazine's list of the Top 100 Greatest Singers of all time, and No. 59 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers of all time. Stewart was also inducted into the U.S. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006, and was inducted a second time into the U.S. Hall of Fame, as a member of Faces, in April 2012.
