Country singer and songwriter Ronnie Milsap never let anything get in his way of success. Born in 1943 in Robbinsville, North Carolina, Milsap was blind since birth and was abandoned by his mother to be raised by his grandparents. Unable to see, he tuned in to the radio to hear stars such as Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley. He began studying classical music and picked up several instruments before turning to rock and roll and fronting a band in high school. He entered Young Harris Junior College in Atlanta, Georgia, studying political science, but to the delight of millions of fans worldwide, Milsap pursued a career in music, and released his first single, 'Total Disaster,'' in 1964 at age 20. After the release of his self-titled album on Warner Bros., Milsap moved to Nashville and began his country music career, signing with RCA Victor. A slew of hits followed, including 'I Hate You' in 1973, 'Pure Love' and 'Please Don't Tell Me How the Story Ends,' both in 1974. In 1975 came 'Daydreams About Night Things,' and Milsap became one of country music's leading stars with hit after hit, and was named Country Music Association male vocalist of the year in 1974, 1976 and 1977.
