Dancehall and Reggae artist takes on the world (Updated January 16, 2013)

He is a skilled athlete, well educated and grew up in St. Andrew, Jamaica with the world at his fingertips. Sean Paul eventually took his talent to new levels when he began scoring hit singles in his homeland in 1996. He became a DJ after he began writing his own songs, and it's been near-smooth sailing ever since for this Grammy-winning dancehall and reggae artist.

Paul released his debut single, "Baby Girl," to significant success. What followed were Jamaican hits like "Nah Get No Bly (One More Try)," "Deport Them," "Excite Me," "Infiltrate" and "Hackle Mi." Three years after his debut, he found an American audience thanks to collaborations with Mr. Vegas on a production for rapper DMX. He later scored a Top Ten hit on the Billboard rap chart with "Hot Gal Today," and played Summer Jam 2000 in New York City.

That fall, Paul's debut album bowed on VP Records. The follow-ups, "Dutty Rock" (2002) and "The Trinity" (2005) were also successful, while his 2009 release "Imperial Blaze" featured the singles "So Fine" and "Hold my Hand." His latest release, 2012's "Tomahawk Technique" features Akon, Stargate, DJ Ammo, Benny Blanco and Kelly Rowland.

Paul has been in the news recently after an $80 million lawsuit was filed in New York's Manhattan Supreme Court by Susanne Persson, who claims to be his ex-girlfriend. Among the documents reportedly filed in the lawsuit is a book that promises to expose 'The Truth about Sean Paul's Cocaine Dealings, Lies, Murders and Erection Problems.' In the expose, Persson also claims she was Paul's "jet set slave" and endured emotional horrors while with him.

Thus far, Paul has had no reaction to the lawsuit and remains focused on his music.
