With technology at their fingertips and the ability and know-how to create new sounds out of nothing more than stripped down acoustics, Shiny Toy Guns came out firing with a Grammy-nominated debut, "We Are Pilots," in 2006. Hell bent on having their songs resonate with listeners, the pioneers of synthpop even weathered a breakup that put 5,500 miles between the band members, but never broke their spirit, their love for each other or for great music.
Shiny Toy Guns' original foursome – Carah Faye, Chad Petree, Jeremy Dawson and Mikey Martin – blazed a path from California when they came together in 2002. Four years later, when "We Are Pilots" produced singles like "Le Disko," "You Are the One" and "Rainy Monday," the band was already well into a period of relentless touring and promotion that eventually fractured them from the inside out. The split chased Faye all the way to Sweden, where she felt the freedom to completely start over, while the remaining members of the band (and Sisely Treasure on vocals) worked on a second album in an effort to expand the band's fan base.
On Novem ber 4, 2008, "Season of Poison," was released through Universal Records. The lead single, "Ricochet!" climbed inside the Top 20 on the Alternative Songs Chart, while "Ghost Town" peaked at No. 26. Still, the band members felt the different sound on this sophomore effort wasn't the music they wanted to make. And even with a number of placements in commercials, television shows, movies, and video games, the desire to put the original pieces of Shiny Toy Guns back together remained strong.
The seeds for a Shiny Toy Guns reunion were planted when Dawson and Martin flew to Sweden to court Faye back into the band. Eventually, it worked. And not only did Faye return, but she became a key part of the band's creative circle in time to work on the album "III." It was officially released on October 26, 2012, and the band will hit the road with The Dirty Heads on February 13 for the Tour Odyssey Powered by Pure Volume.
