Originally from Australia, the amazing thing about this music artist -- not a singer, or dancer, but a music artist -- is she rose to fame in the U.K. Not many would've heard about her if it wasn't for her breakout work in the States -- and boy, did she break out. Born December 18, 1975, she worked on several stints before breaking out solo in 1997. That however, didn't pan out quite right. She later became a backup singer for Jamiroquai, and then inked a solo contract deal with DancePool, a subsidiary of Sony Records around the year 2000.

Her first single off the album was called 'Taken for Granted,' and it stirred some recognition for her name. The actual album titled Hearing Is Difficult then followed in 2001 with an immediate release of album #2 and #3, both respectively titled Colour the Small One and Some People Have Real Problems in the later years. It wasn't, however, until she came out with the one single to end the long-running HBO series Six Feet Under by the name of 'Breathe Me' that she broke out into the U.S. and gained quite the following. Cementing her monumental album Lady Croissant in 2007, her American audience grew to the point where she was working with the likes of the mega-starlet Christina Aguilera on some of her songs.
