The best ticket app
Very convenient to sell tickets. SeatGeek provides a recommended price and then lists your tickets as a good or bad deal. Every pair of tickets that I’ve listed has sold quickly and they only charge a 10% fee for the sale, not bad at all.Oct 8

About Sigur Rós
Sigur Rós is an Icelandic post-rock band formed in Reykjavík in 1994 by lead vocalist and guitarist Jón Þór "Jónsi" Birgisson, bassist Georg Hólm, and drummer Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson. The band’s name, meaning “Victory Rose,” was inspired by Jónsi’s newborn sister, Sigurrós. They gained early attention in 1997 with their debut album Von, though it received limited commercial success. Their breakthrough came in 1999 with the release of Ágætis byrjun (“A Good Beginning”), an album that established them internationally for its atmospheric soundscapes and Jónsi’s ethereal falsetto.
One of Sigur Rós’s most distinctive features is their use of a bowed electric guitar and the invention of a made-up language called “Hopelandic” (Vonlenska), which allows the music’s emotion to lead rather than lyrical meaning. This, combined with cinematic instrumentation, has led their music to be featured in countless film and television projects, including Vanilla Sky, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and Game of Thrones. Their live performances are known for being transcendent, blending haunting visuals with expansive sound.
The band continued to build on their success through the 2000s and 2010s with acclaimed albums like ( ) (2002), Takk...(2005), and Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust (2008), the latter of which featured a more accessible and even joyful tone, highlighted by the track “Hoppípolla,” which became one of their most recognized songs globally. In 2012, they released Valtari, a more ambient and subdued work, followed by Kveikur in 2013, which marked a shift toward a darker, more industrial tone after keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson’s temporary departure.
In recent years, Sigur Rós has continued to perform and experiment, including ambient collaborations, orchestral reinterpretations of past work and art installations. In 2023, the band reunited with Kjartan Sveinsson and released their long-awaited album ÁTTA, their first full-length studio album in a decade, supported by a world tour featuring a live orchestra. Their enduring appeal lies in their ability to create music that transcends language, geography and genre—evoking emotion, awe and introspection with every note.
What kind of music does Sigur Rós make?
Sigur Rós’s music blends post-rock, ambient, minimalist classical and experimental elements. Their work is known for being emotive, expansive and often orchestral, making it popular in film scores, nature documentaries and emotional media moments.
