He was a guitarist that really stuck to his guns. His roses, too. But he wasn't simply all Guns N' Roses. After the Use Your Illusion sets in the early '90s, Slash broke away from the band due to creative differences. Axl Rose wanted to steer the band toward a more industrial and electronic sound, whereas Slash opted for the more classic guitar rock that he was always used to, the same sound that had always made Guns N' Roses so great. Slash then began a side project known as 'Slash's Snakepit,' a small band that featured the kind of music he liked. The outfit consisted of Matt Sorum on drums and Gilby Clarke on guitar, both also members of Guns N' Roses at the time. Slash also recruited bass guitarist Mike Inez and vocalist Eric Dover to round out the lineup. In the year of 1995, the Snakepit released its first ever album: It's Five O'Clock Somewhere. Slash kept working with the Snakepit and other gigs, never really getting back with the Guns N' Roses, but one thing always stayed the same: his guitar swagger and absolute genius.
