Many would think that there would be no way to revamp the heavy metal sub-genre.... Take one look at Static X, and that idea might change! Hailing from the Midwest, both Michigan and Illinois, you have vocalist and guitarist Wayne Static coming from Michigan, meeting with drummer Ken Jay in Illinois to start a band. Lo and behold, they came across guitarist Koichi Fukada in Chicago and bass guitarist Tony Campos hailing from California, and there you have the makings of an alt heavy metal band called Static X. After signing with Warner Brothers in 1998, it became clear that they not only had a sound that paid homage to true-blue heavy metal, but also invented a new look!

Their first album was Wisconsin Death Trip in 1999, and it went gold relatively easy. Their second album Machine followed in 2001 with a cult following. After some lineup changes, June 2005 saw the release of Start a War, followed by 2007's Cannibal and 2009's Cult of Static. Needless to say, when they had something going, they didn't stop. And their fans noticed, too.

Obviously if you were to listen to the band, right off the bat you'd hear some serious aggressive metal sounds with thrash styles a la Metallica. Except they would add some industrial tones and techno pulsating sounds into it! Not to mention the hair (which was mentioned up top!). Yes, the hair. Let's just say Wayne Static redid the whole heavy metal 'hair' thing by having it stand on end! Pretty interesting to look at.
