Sublime History

Sublime was initially formed in Long Beach, California, in 1988. The original members of the band were Bradley Nowell, Bud Gaugh, and Eric Wilson. Unfortunately, Nowell died of a heroin overdose in 1996, causing the band to split up. In the eight years between 1988 and '96, the band released three studio albums and one live album: Jah Won't Pay the Bills, 40 Oz. to Freedom, Robbin' the Hood, and Sublime. Their self-titled album, released shortly after Nowell's death,was the most commercially successful of the four. As of 2009, the band has sold more than 17 million albums worldwide. In 2009, the remaining band members reformed the band with Rome Ramirez as Nowell's replacement. However, a judge ruled that the band would not be allowed to use the Sublime name because Nowell owned the rights to the name at the time of his death. The lawsuit was settled in January of 2010 and the band now performs as Sublime with Rome.
