About Ted Nugent

Guitarist extraordinaire, singer and songwriter, stage performer and outspoken activist Ted Nugent just keeps on keeping on. After released more than 34 albums, writing a book and performing for countless people, he shows no signs of slowing down now. Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1948, Nugent mostly taught himself the guitar and formed his first band, the Lourds, as a young teenager. After moving to Chicago, he formed the band the Amboy Dukes, which enjoyed success with their first, self-titled album, released in 1968. While with the Amboy Dukes, Nugent began building his reputation as a stage spectacle, with innovative costumes, pyrotechnics, live animals and behavior that whipped his audiences to a frenzy. Not to mention his virtuosic rock guitar chops. He left the Amboy Dukes in 1975 to pursue his solo career, signing with Epic Records. His first three albums, Ted Nugent (1975), Free-for-all (1976() and especially Cat Scratch Fever, launched his career to stardom, with hit singles like 'Hey Baby,' 'Stranglehold,' 'Cat Scratch Fever' and 'Out of Control.' His fans came to scream out his catchy song hooks while raving about his guitar playing. Though he hasn't matched that superstardom since, Ted Nugent has continued to perform and record, and he has managed to remain in the spotlight in other ways. He was part of the super group Damn Yankees, along with Styx's Tommy Shaw and Night Ranger's Jack Blades from 1982 to 1989, and still performs to loyal crowds.
