4/17/14: The Rangers are not having trouble hitting or getting on base - they rank 8th in batting average and 11th in on-base percentage. They are having trouble turning those base runners into runs, as they rank 22nd in run scored. However, the major challenge is in pitching. The team has just five quality starts through 14 games, and are 21st in the majors in WHIP and 20th in opposing batting average. This has led to a 7-7 start that already has them a few games behind the division leading Oakland A's. There is still a lot of baseball to be played, and the AL West should be among the more interesting races to watch.
10/2/12 Third Baseman Adrian Beltre of the Texas Rangers has been named the American League Player of the Month for September. Beltre last won the award in September of 2011. This September, Beltre hit .337 (33-98) with 11 home runs, and 19 runs scored in 26 games. He did it on both sides of the field, not committing an error in 22 games in September. Beltre also had four game- winning RBIs which was tops in the league during the month. For the season, he is hitting .321 with 36 home runs and 102 RBIs, all top 10 in the American League. He leads Texas into the Wild Card game against the Baltimore Orioles, where the winner will play the New York Yankees in the division series.
In the first game of a series that many believe is a preview of this upcoming postseason, the Texas Rangers lost to the New York Yankees by the score of 8-2 on Monday night in the Bronx. Ryan Dempster made his third American League start after the trade and was not sharp, pitching six innings and allowing eight earned runs on nine hits and two walks. While the bullpen shut the Yankees down from there, it was too little too late. Offensively for Texas, David Murphy went deep in the second inning off Yankees starter David Phelps, while Nelson Cruz also drove in a run, his 70th of the season. Overall, the team managed just eight hits and were a sordid 1-6 with runners in scoring position.
The Texas Rangers had the big bats going on Wednesday night as they slugged their way past the Boston Red Sox by the score of 10-9. Matt Harrison got the start and lasted just 4.2 innings, surrendering four earned runs on eight hits and three walks. He also added three strikeouts over the course of his 97 pitch outing. Offensively, Mitch Moreland, Josh Hamilton, Nelson Cruz and Geovany Soto all went deep, while Adrian Beltre also drove in two runs. Overall, the team put together 11 hits against the Red Sox and were a solid 2-7 with runners in scoring position. Ian Kinsler also added a stolen base, his 20th on the season so far.
The Texas Rangers reminded the Boston Red Sox just how strong their offense was on Tuesday as they defeated Jon Lester to the tune of 6-3 at Fenway Park. Ryan Dempster made his second start as an American Leaguer and was much better this time around, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing zero earned runs on six hits and a walk. He also added six strikeouts en route to his first victory as a member of the Texas Rangers. Offensively, Ian Kinsler, Josh Hamilton, David Murphy, Nelson Cruz and Elvis Andrus all drove in runs for Texas on the day, with the team hitting an impressive 5-11 with runners in scoring position in the winning effort.
Rangers Ballpark in Arlington is home to the Texas Rangers. The ballpark, located in Arlington, Texas, broke ground in 1992 and opened in 1994. The Texas Rangers play in the West Division of the American League. The Rangers have won the AL Pennant the last two seasons, but have failed to win a World Series, losing to the San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals, respectively. Although the current capacity is 48,194 people, a Rangers Ballpark in Arlington record was set on October 30th, 2010 when 52,419 fans attended the third game in the 2010 World Series. In December of 2010, the Texas Rangers announced that many renovations would be made to Rangers Ballpark in Arlington in time for the 2011 season. The new additions included a new HD video board in right field and center field, an updated video board in left field, new production equipment and speakers for the audio system, and a new system which displays scores and videos, among other things.Rangers Ballpark in Arlington also includes a natural grass youth baseball park with a capacity of 650, a four story office building, and a 12 acre lake with parks and recreation space around it.
Scott Feldman was unstoppable on Sunday as he propelled the Texas Rangers to a 2-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox in Arlington. Feldman pitched eight strong innings, allowing zero earned runs on seven hits. He also added five strikeouts over the course of his 88 pitches and earned his fifth victory of the season in the process. Offensively, Michael Young accounted for the lone run batted in on the game for Texas, his 40th of the year. Overall on the day, however, the team managed just eight hits and were 0-10 with runners in scoring position. Ian Kinsler also added his 19th stolen base of the year on the base paths.
Derek Holland earned his seventh win of the season on Wednesday as he led the Texas Rangers to a 5-3 win against the reeling Boston Red Sox. Holland pitched 7.2 strong innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits and a walk. He also added seven strikeouts over the course of his 100 pitch outing. Offensively for Texas, Nelson Cruz hit his 13th home run of the season in the 8th inning off Boston reliever Matt Albers, while David Murphy, Craig Gentry and Ian Kinsler all also drove in runs. Overall on the day, the team had a solid .300 batting average with runners in scoring position.
While starter Matt Harrison put together a decent start, it was not enough as the Texas Rangers were defeated by the Los Angeles Angels by the score of 7-4 on Sunday. Harrison pitched six innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and two walks. He also added four strikeouts, but at the same time picked up his fifth loss of the year thus far. Nelson Cruz added his 12th home run of the season in the fourth inning off Angels starter Dan Haren, while Michael Young and Elvis Andrus also drove in runs. Overall on the day, however, the team was just 1-5 with runners in scoring position.
The Texas Rangers, who got off to a slow start to the month of June after tearing through the better part of May, have gotten back on track again, winning 9 of their last 10 games and earning the top record in baseball along the way, thanks to the Dodgers' getting swept by the Athletics this week. The Rangers, at 43-27, are 5 games ahead of the second-place Los Angeles Angels, who have been making a push of their own lately. The Rangers' latest free agent pitching acquisition, Roy Oswalt, will make his first start of the season on Friday night in the first game of the series against the Colorado Rockies.
The Texas Rangers, at 37-27, will begin a three-game interleague series with their in-state foes, the Houston Astros, on Friday night. Coming off an 11-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night, the Rangers will look to rebound with Yu Darvish on the mound against the Astros' Jordan Lyles. With their lead in the AL West dwindling down to only three games, the Rangers are losing some ground, but still remain at the top in every major offensive category. Josh Hamilton also continues to produce, and with 22 home runs and 62 RBI he leads the league in both of those categories.
After tearing through the month of May, the Texas Rangers have now cooled down substantially, losing 7 of their last 10 games and dropping three consecutive series to the Mariners, Angels, and Athletics -- all division rivals. The Rangers are coming off of a rough series against Oakland where they lost three out of four games and will begin a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants on Friday night, a rematch of the 2010 World Series that the Giants won. Still leading the league in all four major offensive categories, the Rangers lead the Angels by 4 games in the AL West with a record of 33-25.
The 31-20 Texas Rangers lead the league in every major offensive category and are in first place in the AL West, 5.5 games ahead of the second-place Angels. Rookie phenom pitcher Yu Darvish has led the way for the Texas pitching staff, notching a 7-2 record and a 3.25 ERA, while Josh Hamilton has led the way for the league's top offense, as his 21 home runs and 57 RBI are tops in both categories. The Rangers will begin a weekend series with the Angels starting on Friday night and will look to get back to their winning ways after losing two in a row.
5/25/12 The Texas Rangers, and especially Josh Hamilton, have cooled off a bit following their scorching week where Hamilton ripped 9 home runs. The Rangers, in first place in the AL West at 27-18, are now getting set for a three-game series this weekend against the Toronto Blue Jays. Hamilton leads Texas with a .379 batting average and is only slightly behind Paul Konerko who has the top spot in the AL with a .384 average. However he does lead the American League in both home runs and RBI, with 18 and 49 respectively. The Rangers are currently at the top in three of the four major offensive categories.
5/18/12 The Texas Rangers are riding the hot bat of Josh Hamilton, who has carried them to a 24-15 record thus far. Sitting in first place in the AL West, 4 games ahead of the Oakland Athletics, the Rangers will play a 3-game interleague set against their in-state pseudo-rivals the Houston Astros this weekend. Hamilton, who is leading the American League with a .399 batting average, also has 18 home runs and a jaw-dropping 45 RBI -- and we're barely halfway through May. Neftali Feliz, the Rangers' closer-turned-starter, will open up the series against the Astros from Minute Maid Park on Friday night.
5/11/12 At 21-11, the Texas Rangers have been lighting up the American League in the past week, and Josh Hamilton has been stealing headlines with his offensive prowess. After becoming just the 16th player in MLB history to hit four home runs in one game, Hamilton added yet another home run in the third game of the series against Baltimore. With 15 home runs and 38 RBI to go along with a .395 batting average, Hamilton is having himself quite the season already. The Rangers are first in the league in runs scored, batting average, and slugging percentage, and are second in the league in on-base percentage.
5/2/12 - Two Texas Rangers players were awarded for their performances in the month of April. Outfielder Josh Hamilton was awarded the American League Player of the Month and Pitcher Yu Darvish was the American League Rookie of the Month. Hamilton led the league with 9 home runs, 25 RBIs, and was second in the league with a .395 batting average. In his first month in the Majors, Darvish was 4-0 in five starts. He also has a 2.18 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 33.0 innings pitched. It is the first time two Rangers teammates have won AL awards in the same month.
4/30/12 - On January 18, the Texas Rangers signed Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish to a $60 Million dollar contract for six years. At the time, Darvish was considered the top pitcher in the Japanese professional baseball league and had impressed teams during the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2009 World Baseball Classic. After a rocky first start in which he allowed 5 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings against the Seattle Mariners, Darvish has been fantastic. In the month of April, he is 4-0 with a 2.18 ERA in 5 starts. He has also struck out 33 batters in 33 innings pitched. After Darvish allowed five runs in the first two innings of his big league career, he has given up just three earned runs in 31 innings after that for an ERA of 0.87. The season is still a long way from being over, but for now the Texas Rangers investment is paying off as the Rangers are in first place in the west and have the best record in baseball with 17 wins and 6 losses.
The Texas Rangers were the hard-luck losers on Tuesday night after Toronto Blue Jays third basemen Brett Lawrie hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to secure the loss for Texas. Reliever Mike Adams picked up the loss in the ninth, giving up the home run without recording an out. Ian Kinsler had two hits for the Rangers, including three runs batted in, while shortstop Elvis Andrus also contributed three hits and an RBI. Texas starter Neftali Feliz gave up four runs through five innings of work, giving up four hits and six walks through 88 pitches. The Rangers will look for a strong performance from probable starter Matt Harrison on Wednesday.
Already leading the American League West by a healthy 5.5 games going into the final game of April, the Texas Rangers will look to increase their lead when they head to Toronto to face off against the Blue Jays in a three game set this week. Josh Hamilton has not cooled down for the offense, now leading the team with a .395 batting average, 9 home runs and 25 runs batted in through only one month of the season. While it is prudent to believe that his batting average will drop a bit in the coming months, it is not out of the question to expect 45-50 home runs and 140 runs batted in from Hamilton if he can stay healthy for the rest of the season.
5/4/12 A red-hot 17-8 start to the season has the Texas Rangers sitting in first place in the AL West in the early part of this 2012 MLB season. Josh Hamilton is leading the charge for the Rangers, batting .395 with 9 home runs and 25 RBI. The Rangers have also been helped by their new phenom pitching acquistion Yu Darvish, who has made a few masterful starts for Texas so far this season. Darvish has been worth every penny so far, as he is 4-0 with a 2.18 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP and 33 strikeouts in five starts this season.
The Texas Rangers have gotten out to the strongest start in all of baseball with a 13-4 mark through the first 17 games and have become the early-season favorite to represent the American League in the World Series this year. Josh Hamilton has been on a torrid pace and is hitting .408 with an AL-leading 8 home runs to go along with 18 runs batted in. Second basemen Ian Kinsler leads the team with 17 of the teams 98 runs scored so far this season. The team currently leads the league in runs, batting average and slugging percentage, while ranking second in on-base percentage.
Another club with big expectations going into the 2012 season, the Texas Rangers added Japanese ace Yu Darvish to an already strong starting rotation in hopes of repeating at American League champions for the third straight year. The Rangers wasted no time getting out to a strong start by posting a 3-1 record through the first week. While Darvish struggled in his first start by giving up 5 earned runs in 5.2 innings, the team rallied from behind for an 11-5 win over the Mariners, giving Darvish his first win in as many tries. Slugger Josh Hamilton also added 2 home runs in the first week. 4/12/12 The two-time defending American League champion Texas Rangers are off to another hot start to begin 2012, with a 5-2 record, good enough for first place in the AL West. Although they lost their ace C.J. Wilson to free agency in the winter, they were able to acquire the hot-shot Japanese phenom Yu Darvish. Darvish made his MLB debut last week against the Seattle Mariners and was able to pick up the win, despite giving up 5 runs in the process. The Rangers hope to ride the hot bats of their power hitters like Josh Hamilton and Ian Kinsler and the pitching of starters Derek Holland and Neftali Feliz to another AL West title.
