It was the early 2000s when a guitarist by the name of Sune Rose Wagner and bass guitarist and vocalist Sharin Foo came together in Copenhagen to bring back a genre of rock that was made popular by the likes of the Beatles and the Velvet Underground. They became what many know as the Raveonettes, a duo responsible for the innovation that was the Whip It On project, an set of songs recorded entirely in the B-flat minor schematic and utilizing only three chords. Each song had to be less than three minutes long without any use of ride cymbals, and the result was something fuzzy, moody, and very cinematic. Electronic bits were also added for an artistic flair, and the result was a 2002 summer release, leading to a record deal with Columbia for their proper debut album.

That official album came out in 2003 with the name The Chain Gang of Love, featuring the single 'That Great Love Sound.' It mesmerized listeners and viewers everywhere of the performances, prompting the release of a second album -- that album was 2005's Pretty in Black with collaborations such as Martin Rev, Ronnie Spector, and the Velvet Underground's Moe Tucker. It led to a few more albums -- Lust Lust Lust in 2008, In and Out of Control in 2009, and Raven in the Grave in 2011 with the featured track 'Forget That You're Young' hitting the air waves.

Before there was death metal, there were the Raveonettes -- only they weren't 'death metal.' The reality is that it was part of their appeal. With the merge of some of the sounds of the Jesus and Mary Chain with some classic '50s rock 'n' roll melodies, the Raveonettes took a darkness founded in major deep rock music to a new level. CLearly the Raveonettes sat on a niche all by themselves.
