About The Tragically Hip
Tragically Hip Tickets - A Tragedy? No. A Triumph? More Like It
Picture this: it's beautiful Kingston, Ontario, and a group of childhood friends came together in 1983 to form a band. It sounds like a slice of life. Enter the band members: vocalist Gordon DOwnie, guitarist Bobby Baker, guitarist Paul Langlois, bass guitarist Gord Sinclair, and drummer Johnny Fay. What you have here is Tragically Hip! Quite the clever name, actually. Except there's nothing tragic about what they do. MCA Records took notice and offered a deal in 1987 that would propel them to the start of their career.
Tragically Hip Tickets - Poets at Heart
It was no surprise that they were able to seal a deal with MCA, because their songs were poetic at heart, beautiful, and without fail to mesmerize the imagination. With such hits as 'Blow at High Dough' from the debut album Up to Here released in 1989 and other hits like 'Courage' and 'Wheat Kings,' they were bringing the crowds to them in droves all over certain areas of Michigan and New York. Their second album Road Apples in 1991 was somewhat successful. They were then able to earn a contract from Atlantic Records for the release of their next album Trouble at the Henhouse. Tragically Hip stirred the indie rock and commercial rock crowds so well that they continued releasing albums all the way up to 2006! It was their twelfth album, entitled We Are the Same.
Tragically Hip Tickets - A Tragically Hip Sound
Besides being imaginative with their lyrics and general content, what made the Hip stand out a whole lot was their stage presence, their performance. This wasn't a band that was particularly radio friendly, but that didn't matter when you were writing powerful music just for its own sake and not for a record deal. At heart, Tragically Hip is a true band in the purest sense of the word.
