Thurgood Tickets -Show History
This one-man show directed by Leonard Foglia. is based on the inspiring real-life story Thurgood Marshall, an exceptional man who rose from the slums of Baltimore to become the first African American US Supreme Court Judge. The production originally premiered at the Westport County Playhouse in Westport, Connecticut to rave reviews from both audiences and critics alike. The role of Thurgood Marshall was then played by veteran actor James Earl Jones who has lent his voice to the popular Disney Film, The Lion King in addition to starring in high-caliber Broadway productions such as Driving Miss Daisy, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof and Fences. After the end of the show's Connecticut run in 2006, Thurgood eventually moved to the Broadway stage. Premiering at the Booth Theatre on March 30, 2008 and opening on April 20, the production starred Laurence Fishburne who has won a TONY for his role in August Wilson's Two Trains Running in addition to being an Oscar Nominee for his role in the film What's Love Got To Do With it?.

Although fans shouldn't expect dazzling musical numbers or flying acrobats during this production, Thurgood is just as an exciting production on Broadway as any. Fisburne performs his critically acclaimed solo act as Thurgood Marshall, who battles various adversities but rises through them all. Running at an easy 90 minutes, theater-goers will experience history in a thoughtful and entertaining light, leaving with a pleasant patriotism toward not only America, but our history as well. The show, which is written by George Steven Jr, accurately depicts Thurgood's triumphant story while showcasing the positivity and efforts of a true American Hero. The production also features scenic design by Allen Moyer, costume design by Jane Greenwood, lighting design by Brian Nason, projection design b Elaine J. McCarthy and sound design by Ryan Rumery.
