Torche is tops in Stoner Metal (Created May 29, 2013)

Their recurring guitarist once happened to be a guy named Juan Montoya (the musician, not the race car driver). Their name sounds more like a dessert special than a band. But Torche, the end result of the dissolution of Floor, has been making music for the better part of a decade, having introduced the world to a new flavor of stoner metal.

Torche formed in 2004, and to date has released three full-length studio albums, four EPs, two split albums and three singles. The most recent project, "Harmonicraft," came in 2012 and proved once again that the band has a unique sound that provokes a range of emotions in a very, very large fan base around the world.
Just how attached did the fans become to the more triumphant side of the genre? It's safe to say they fully embraced the soaring vocals and droning guitars, and powered Torche to one release after another. First came 2005's self-titled debut, followed in 2008 by "Meanderthal." A commercial success put them on the road with the likes of Sword, Mouth of Architect, Jesu, Isis, Mogwai and more.

Though Montoya left the band following their sophomore release, Torche carried on as a three-piece band. In 2009, they embarked on tours with bands such as dredg and Harvey Milk. They also opened for Coheed and Cambria on their headlining tour alongside Circa Survive in spring 2010.

In January 2011, Andrew Elstner (Riddle of Steel, Tilts) joined up with Torche to once again make them a fearsome foursome. The band is scheduled to venture across the pond in July and August 2013 for a tour of mainland Europe and the United Kingdom.
