Wizard of Oz Tickets- Show History
Based on the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz which was an adaptation of a 1900 novel by L. Frank Baum, Wizard of Oz is an adaptation is by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jeremy Sams. The musical uses all of the Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg songs from the film and includes new songs and additional music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and additional lyrics by Tim Rice. This show marks Rice and Lloyd Webber's first production together in the West End in over three decades. The infamous and beloved duo added several new songs to the film's score, including a song for the two witches to sing to hopefully fill the gaps of what they think is missing in earlier stage versions of the show. The production initially opened in London's West End after previews in February 2011 before opening on March, 2011. The production, directed by Jeremy Sams, chose the actress playing Dorothy, Danielle Hope, on a television show titled Over The Rainbow. She is accompanied by seasoned actors Michael Crawford as the Wizard and Hannah Waddingham as the Wicked Witch of the West. The runner of of the program, Sophie Evans, serves as the understudy, playing Dorothy on Tuesday evenings and when Hope is on vacation.
