MMA Tickets - Something Sweeter Than Wrestling and a Lot Bloodier Than Boxing
That really was the trouble with that kind of sports entertainment: wrestling wasn't real, and boxing -- at least for some -- was just plain lame. That's why the UFC was created. Originally coined as the Ultimate Fighting Championship, it revolutionized the sports entertainment industry with the age of Mixed Martial Arts, a type of full-contact combat sport allowing such devices as striking (without gloves as in boxing) and grappling techniques (like you would see in wrestling). Typically, MMA features some of the same principles as boxing and wrestling along with more eastern styles of fighting like Brazilian jujitsu, Muay Thai, kickboxing, Karate, Judo, and many other styles. MMA really came into its own when the Gracie family from Brazil brought the UFC into power with the dangerous fighting style Vale Tudo.
MMA Tickets - The History Behind the Fierceness
Who knew that MMA would be such an amazing phenomenon, especially the person who coined the phrase 'mixed martial arts,' a man by the name of Rick Blume, President and CEO of Battlecade in 1995? The truth is MMA existed a long time ago as an ancient Olympic combat sport called Pankration. Once the Greeks popularized the sport, the Romans adopted it as well in conjunction with their fanaticism over the gladiators in the Colosseum. Over time, it kept getting passed on from culture to culture until it evolved into what we know today: Mixed Martial Arts.
MMA Tickets - Some of the Heaviest Hitters
To this day, MMA fighting reaches a popularity that is unheard of. Many fighters train to get in on the circuit, and today the UFC is only one of them -- albeit the original Championship ever devised. Some of the best fighters include Jon Bones Jones, Quentin 'Rampage' Jackson, Rashad Evans, Brock Lesnar, Cain Velasquez, Lyoto Machida, BJ Penn, GSP, and of course Anderson The Spider Silva.
