Yeah Yeah Yeahs 'Blitz' the music industry (Created May 29, 2013)

What is art punk, exactly? Listen to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and you just might find out.

Comprised of singer Karen O, guitarist Nicolas Zinner and drummer Brian Chase, this trio came together after Zinner and O originally formed the band in 2000. Once known as the folky duo Unitard, they took on a new moniker when Chase joined the lineup. Soon, the three were heavily influenced by Ohio's avant punk scene.

It didn't take long for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to find success once they came together. Supporting acts for both the Strokes and the White Stripes earned them significant cred in the industry. And if that weren't enough, along came the band's self-titled debut EP in late 2001 which pushed them into the international spotlight. Suddenly the Yeah Yeahs found themselves touring the U.S. with Girls Against Boys and Europe with Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

Ripping up the road provided incentive for the band to put the finishing touches on its full-length debut album. It came under the title "Fever to Tell" in 2003 on the Interscope label (behind the band's "Machine" EP), drawing even more critical acclaim behind singles like the ballad "Maps."

Though the band members eventually took some time to pursue individual projects, they came back strong with the sophomore effort "Show Your Bones" in spring 2006. Three years later, "It's Blitz!" followed, and the group's highly anticipated third album, "Mosquito," bowed on April 12, 2013. It entered the Billboard at number five in its first week, earning the band their first top ten album on the chart.
