The college basketball season always gets off to a great start with the 2K Classic, so getting yourself to one of the games seems like a fine idea. What could be more fun than watching a college hoops doubleheader – or two – at Madison Square Garden the week before Thanksgiving?
Formerly known as the Atlantic City Shootout and the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, the 2K Classic features teams from eight different conferences in a format than began in 2014. Four pre-selected regional sites host two games apiece, and there’s an additional, four-team subregional. Four of the teams play at multiple locations prior to the semifinal and final rounds at New York’s “Mecca of Basketball.”
Princeton won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 1997, with other past champions including powers such as Syracuse, Arizona, Connecticut, Kansas and Duke.
One of the 2k Classic’s greatest games was the 2015 final, which Duke won over Georgetown by a score of 86-84. Blue Devils sophomore Grayson Allen scored 32 points in the contest, going five-for-six from three-point range.
There’s been no shortage of star power at the 2K Classic, as all-tournament teams have included many notable players, such as Kevin Durant, Dwyane Wade, Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose, Al Horford, Gerald Henderson and Grayson Allen, plus Final Four Most Outstanding Players Carmelo Anthony, Juan Dixon and Shabazz Napier.
If you can’t wait for college basketball’s regular season to begin, the 2K Classic is a great way to whet your hoops appetite. Get your tickets now!
