Ain't Too Proud - The Life and Times of The Temptations Details

Ain’t Too Proud - The Life and Times of the Temptations is a jukebox musical following the life of The Temptations from to the streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Chronicling their journey through civil unrest that threatened to tear America apart, this moving story uses The Temptations’ hit songs to tell their story of friendship and betrayal five decades later. Directed by Des McAnuff and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo, Ain’t Too Proud features The Temptations’ smooth harmonies and signature dance moves performed with breathtaking authenticity.

But The Temptations weren’t alone on their journey to the top, and Ain’t Too Proud pays homage to some of the talented stars that shared the airwaves with The Temptations, featuring hits by Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson. The all-star cast brings all their songs to life, transporting audiences back in time with fan favorites such as “If You Don’t Know Me by Now,” “Get Ready,” “Just My Imagination,” “In the Still of the Night,” “For Once in My Life,” and “My Girl,” just to name a few.

Director Des McAnuff has brought several jukebox style musicals to the stage, lending his talent and vision to such hits as “Jersey Boys,” “The Who’s Tommy,” and “Big River.” Having directed more than 20 stage productions since 1985, McAnuff is a Broadway powerhouse in his own right, celebrated by his peers for his achievements. McAnuff has received several Tony Award nominations, winning Best Director of a Musical two time (1985 and 1993). In addition to his personal recognition, his 2006 revival of “Jersey Boys” won the Tony Award for Best Musical. In 1996, Des McAnuff has also won a Laurence Olivier Theater Award for Best Director. In 2012, he won the National Arts Centre Award, a companion award to the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards, which is Canada’s highest honor in the performing arts.
