Roll Tide! Just say that anywhere in Alabama, and you’ll be fine. Outside the Auburn area, anyway.

‘Bama football is second to none when it comes to history. The program is closing in on 20 national titles, claims dozens of consensus All-America selections, and has a couple of Heisman Trophy winners in Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry. The Crimson Tide also has a winning record against every current and former SEC school.

Alabama began playing football in 1892, and is one of 10 teams that has been in the Southeastern Conference since it was formed in 1933. Its most legendary coach is Paul “Bear” Bryant, who won six national championships during his 25-year tenure. Fans of Nick Saban might argue with that statement, of course.

The Tide plays home games in Bryant-Denny Stadium, which seats a bit less than 102,000 fans. Bryant’s record was 72-2 in games at Bryant-Denny.

Arrive early to your game in Tuscaloosa to tailgate on the Quad with thousands of other Tide fans. Then watch the Elephant Stomp about an hour before kickoff, when the school marching band entertains fans on the steps of the Gorgas Library.

Alabama has plenty of longstanding SEC rivalries, but the annual Iron Bowl versus Auburn is always the highlight of the schedule. For pure, unadulterated sports hatred, it’s tough to beat ‘Bama-Auburn. The Tide holds a decisive edge in the series, which began in 1893.
