Arcade Fire Details

Arcade Fire rolls out "Reflektor" (Updated 12/12/13)

The making of Arcade Fire's fourth studio album was not without its challenges. The roof collapsed on the church they had been using as a studio, forcing the band to work in several different recording studios. But the project came together in time for its October 28 release date, carrying the name "Reflektor."

Influenced by Haitian rara music, the 1959 film "Black Orpheus" and Soren Kierkegaard's essay "The Present Age," the album's release piggybacked off a guerrilla marketing campaign and the release of a limited single edition (the band's full project is a double album). It not only received mass critical praise, Rolling Stone ranked it at No. 5 on their "50 Best Albums of 2013" list, while it came in at No. 10 on Stereogum's list.

Speaking of promotion, Arcade fire were also guests on the 39th season premiere of "Saturday Night Live" on September 28. They also appeared in a half-hour special on NBC called "Arcade Fire in Here comes the Night Time" immediately after SNL. In early November they also played at the YouTube Music Awards, and their performance featured an experimental "live video" directed by Spike Jonze and starring actress Greta Gerwig.

Arcade Fire recently announced a huge show scheduled for Dublin's Marlay Park on June 29, 2014. (Support at the outdoor gig will come from the Pixies). The date comes just a few weeks after the band is also penciled in to play two shows at London's Earls Court (on June 6/7). Right now, all of their UK and Ireland tour dates fall in the festival season.

Arcade Fire finds success overwhelming (Updated January 2, 2013)

Already in high demand following the release of their first two studio albums, the members of Arcade Fire played a number of high-profile festivals such as Lollapalooza and Coachella and maintained a constant tour schedule. At one point, these road warriors had played 122 shows in 75 cities and 19 countries through 2007 as part of the "Neon Bible" tour, before opening 2008 by playing a number of free concerts in support of Barack Obama.

Ambition outweighed exhaustion when the band set to work on its next album, and "The Suburbs" bowed in August 2010. The album debuted at No 1. On the Irish, UK, U.S. and the Canadian Albums Charts. The band then officially crashed into the mainstream by capturing Album of the Year at the 2011 Grammy Awards, and a taste of success became a deluge&mdasheven at a time when the band pursued anonymity, and still preferred small club crowds over raucous arena shows.

The burgeoning mainstream success was in many ways overwhelming for the band, and they took some time to fade away from the noise instead of embrace it. They didn't truly resurface until recording a song for "The Hunger Games" soundtrack in 2012 called "Abraham's Daughter."

The biggest rumor surrounding the band's fourth album was that former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy was helping out on the project. Rumor became reality when Scott Rodger, manager for Arcade Fire, let slip to the media that the collaboration could involve 'three or so songs.' He offered no further details when the record would be ready, only offering it would likely be a late 2013 release.
