Ariana Grande Details

Now known primarily as an ascending pop superstar, Ariana Grande first made a mark as an artist in several different mediums. Her debut starring role in 2008 was actually on stage, when she won a National Youth Theatre Association Award as a 15-year-old for 13, the only Broadway musical to ever feature a cast and band composed entirely of teenagers. In 2009, both she and her 13 co-star, Elizabeth Gillies, landed roles in the new Nickelodeon series Victorious, with Grande playing the character of Cat Valentine. Grande was considered the show’s breakout star, a belief affirmed at the show’s end in 2012 when she received a spin-off series with iCarly’s Jennette McCurdy. Sam and Cat aired through 2014.

Already a household name from her television career, it didn’t take long for her to make a splash in music. Her first single, the Mac Miller-featuring “The Way,” debuted in the U.S. Top Ten, eventually selling 2.3 million copies and reaching certified triple platinum status. The album it preceded, Yours Truly, debuted at No. 1, making Ariana Grande the first female artist to see her first album debut at No. 1 since Ke$ha in 2010. Her next album did even better. Propelled by singles such as “Problem,” “Love Me Harder” and “One Last Time,” 2014’s My Everything also debuted at No. 1, going on to sell nearly 700,000 copies. Grande’s most recent album, Dangerous Woman, was released in May of 2016 and charted at No. 2 in the U.S., and included the Nicki Minaj-assisted jam “Side to Side.” As if those projects weren’t enough, Grande has also released two Christmas albums—quite appropriate for the woman who has been compared to Mariah Carey.
