Arizona Wildcats Basketball Details
The University of Arizona is one of the most storied schools in college basketball. The Wildcats are perennial Pac-12 contenders, with six conference tournaments to their name, and a whopping 32 NCAA Tournament appearances. From 1985-2009, the Wildcats made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament 25 consecutive years in a row, two years shy of North Carolina’s record of 27. Much of that success came under legendary coach Lute Olson, including the school’s lone NCAA Championship in 1997. Since 2009, Sean Miller has been the ‘Cats head coach, bringing 12 years of coaching experience, nine NCAA Tournament appearances, and four league Coach of the Year awards from his time at Xavier University.
Arizona had an impressive 2016-2017 season, finishing first in the Pac-12 conference. They had a conference record of 16-2 and an overall record on 32-5, good enough for a two seed in March Madness, though the team was knocked out by Xavier in the Sweet Sixteen. For the upcoming 2017-2018 season, the Wildcats have a very strong recruiting class coming in. Five-star forward Emmanual Akot will be joining the Wildcats this season after reclassifying to 2017. Akot is a strong player and should be a great addition to the team. Another five-star recruit, DeAndre Ayton from nearby Phoenix, AZ, will also be joining the Wildcats this upcoming season. A seven-foot center with a great jump-shot, Ayton is already a prospect for the 2018 NBA draft. Ayton should only make the Wildcats stronger this season. Three other top recruits including Brandon Randolph, Ira Lee, and Alex Barcello will don Wildcats jerseys during the 2017-18 season.
