Be More Chill Details
Based on Ned Vizzini’s 2004 novel of the same name, Be More Chill is a sci-fi comedy musical by Joe Iconis and Joe Tracz. Be More Chill’s unprecedented internet fandom led it to Broadway from its hit commercial run at the Pershing Square Signature Center Summer of 2018. In fact, the production has such a following that there’s already plans to produce a film adaptation of the musical. The film adaptation is still in the beginning stages, but with several big names vying for production rights, it’s sure to be a treat for fans of this stellar musical.
Be More Chill follows the colorful cast of characters as they navigate the pitfalls of high school, popularity, personal problems, and the dreaded school play. When the lead character Jeremy Heere takes a pill to help him become more cool, it sends everything spiraling out of control, revealing a sinister plan and bringing about a chain-reaction that no one sees coming.
Many of the cast from the off-Broadway production made their Broadway debut when Be More Chill moved to the Lyceum Theater in February of 2019. Several of the actors that opened Be More Chill on Broadway have been with the production since its 2015 inception. Lauren Marcus is one of those actors, reprising her role as Brooke Lohst for the fourth time since 2015. Be More Chill also boasts a few Broadway veterans, including Gerard Canonico and Will Roland. Canonico made his Broadway debut at the tender age of 10, playing Gavroche in Les Misérables (1999). After a year and a half, he left Les Misérables to play Jonathan in A Christmas Carol (2000-2001). Will Roland is best known for originating the role of Jared Kleinman in Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway from 2016 through 2018. Roland joined the cast of Be More Chill off-Broadway in 2018, playing the role of main character Jeremy Heere.
