Bob Seger is back on the road
Bob Seger is 69-years-old and has long had a penchant for smoking. But Seger recently told the world he's cutting back on the nicotine, bicycles 10 miles a day as part of a new workout routine and – here's the best part for fans – he's back on the road again.
It's been a busy couple of months for the near-Septuagenarian, who not only worked tirelessly to finalize plans for a 25-city tour, he's also busy promoting "Ride Out," his brand new album (and first since 2006), which recently earned the number three spot on the Billboard 200, the highest of his career (matching the No. 3 showing of 1986's "Like a Rock" and besting the No. 4 debut of 2006's "Face the Promise").
"Well it's just great to be able to do it, you know, because I love doing it," Seger recently said on "CBS This Morning." "And consequently, the success allows me to keep doing it, and that's just really gratifying."
Seger (along with his Silver Bullet Band) began the aforementioned tour on November 19, 2014 in Saginaw, Michigan at Wendler Arena and continued straight into 2015. The North American tour will hit all the major markets – Boston, Chicago, New York, Atlanta and Tampa just to name a few – before a date in Los Angeles, California on February 27th.
The veteran rocker will be concluding the tour on Saturday, March 28th at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN, which will be the 40th concert on the trek. It will be Seger's most extensive effort on the road since 2006-07's Face The Promise Tour.
Seger isn't saying yet whether he'll continue his tour beyond the planned dates, though he says he will definitely continue creating new music: "I just take it tour by tour," he recently told The Journal Times (in Wisconsin).
If you've got your Bob Seger tickets, rest assured that the iconic rocker and the Silver Bullet Band will be playing a mix of staples at every show, including "Night Moves," "Turn the Page" and "Mainstreet," along with several songs off the new album.
Several months ago, Seger will also appeared on an episode of "CMT Crossroads," alongside superstar Jason Aldean. The show pairs country acts with musicians from other genres in a mix-and-match format.
Seger still working on next album (Updated August 23, 2013)
Bob Seger's anticipated studio album never materialized in 2012, but Seger is still showing off his working-class roots and work ethic for all to see and hear. In fact, this still-relevant rocker is reaping the benefits of his musical longevity.
It was June 14, 2012 when Seger was finally inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame – an achievement many felt was long overdue. A little more than six months later – January 10, 2013 to be exact – he announced another tour in the US and Canada aptly named the "Rock and Roll Never Forgets Tour."
If you've seen a Seger live show lately, you'll notice the hefty presence of new material in the set – from the opening version of John Hiatt's "Detroit made" to the original "All The Roads" and a cover of "California Stars." All three were recorded during late January 2013 in Nashville and are slated for his next (and possibly final) studio album.
Seger himself told multiple media outlets that two-thirds of his upcoming album was done back in the spring, and his target date to have it out was by the end of August. Even though it's been put on hold, he seems resolute now to get it done. He's also returned to the studio for other projects. He was half of a duet on a new version of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Who'll Stop the Rain" for John Fogerty's new album, "Wrote a Song for Everyone." That was released May 28, and Seger was also featured in "The History of the Eagles" documentary which bowed on April 30.
About Bob Seger
Singer/songwriter, guitarist and pianist Bob Seger represents, for many, the can-do spirit of America. Born in 1945 and raised in blue-collar Michigan, Seger struggled for years, touring the Midwest concert circuit with only regional success. It was in 1973, when he put together the Silver Bullet Band, that Seger began a streak of success that made him a household name in rock and made Bob Seger tickets a hot commodity.
With his albums "Beautiful Loser" in 1975, then "Live Bullet" and "Night Moves" the following year, Seger burst onto the national music scene with hit singles like "Katmandu," "Rock and Roll Never Forgets" and "Travelin' Man." He followed that success with even bigger hits, "Old Time Rock and Roll," "We've Got Tonight," "Against the Wind," "Like a Rock," and "Turn the Page."
Among all Seger's hits, it's his live album, "Live Bullet," that still signifies his success. That's because Seger's live shows are not to be missed, churning with high-power Detroit energy and bursting with pure, raw rock and roll. His performances are a chance to see one of middle America's legendary rockers, a man who refused to give up and insisted on making and performing his brand of rock even when no one was paying attention. Today his gritty sound still makes as powerful a statement about America as it ever did.
With his signature raspy voice sounding as good as it did five decades ago, Seger continues to perform and record today. Seger and his Silver Bullet Band were on the road in 2011 and traveled coast to coast, playing in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Dallas and more. Though he told Rolling Stone that his touring days are winding down, Seger has a new album slated for fall 2012. It will be his first studio project in six years.
