Bruno Mars Details

Combining an unparalleled stage presence with the smoothest voice in the industry, Bruno Mars could rightly be called the 21st century’s answer to Michael Jackson. In fact, Mars spent his teenage years in Hawaii as a Jackson impersonator. He moved to California in 2003 after receiving his high school diploma, first breaking through as a songwriter when he helped pen Flo Rida’s No. 1 hit “Right Round” in 2009. But it was in 2010 that Mars really blew up, signaling to the world that the decade to come was his to dominate. That year saw him crush the hooks on B.o.B.'s “Nothin’ on You” and Travie McCoy's “Billionaire,” and, biggest of all, release his debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans. The album leads off with two epic pop smashes in “Grenade” and “Just the Way You Are,” and, further down the tracklist, gets silly with lighthearted jam “The Lazy Song.”

From there, Mars was firmly established as one of pop’s biggest stars. In 2012, he scored two more No. 1 singles in “Locked Out of Heaven” and “When I Was Your Man” off of his sophomore album Unorthodox Jukebox, which also includes the ubiquitous “Treasure.” In early 2014, he headlined the Super Bowl halftime show. Mars got his biggest hit later that year by doing the vocals on Mark Ronson’s banger “Uptown Funk,” which spent 14 weeks at Billboard’s No. 1 spot, the second-longest streak of all time. His 2017 album 24K Magic launched a successful single by the same name as well as the No. 1 “That’s What I Like”. Things came full circle for Mars when he was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live in October and busted out the MJ impression he developed so many years prior.

Bruno Mars wowed the music world once again at the 60th annual Grammy Awards in 2018, when he won six Grammys, just two shy of the record for most won in one night. He took home the awards for record, album, and song of the year, making him only the tenth artist to do so.
