Tipping off the NCAA Men’s Basketball season every year since 2011, the Champions Classic has been an exciting way to start a crazy and unpredictable few months that make up Division I basketball. With a contract through 2019, there are at least three more of these tremendously fun nights in college basketball’s future.
The State Farm Champions Classic began back in 2011 and has been a fun, exciting shakeup to the early days of each NCAA men’s basketball season. The Champions Classic pits four of basketball’s most popular teams – Duke, Kentucky, Kansas,Michigan State– against each other in an exciting night of action. In the inaugural Classic, the Duke Blue Devils beat the Michigan State Spartans while Kentucky beat Kansas. Back in 2016, fans were treated to an exciting bout between Kansas and Duke in Madison Square Garden, where the Jayhawks eked out a 77-75 win against Coach K and the Blue Devils. As far as overall standings go, the Kentucky Wildcats have the best record at 4-2, while Duke and Michigan State are tied at 3-3, and Kansas is sitting at 2-4.
The 2017 Champions Classic will be held at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on November 14, 2017. Kentucky will matchup against Kansas, while Duke will take on Michigan State. Not only do these matchups see four of the nation’s finest teams playing against each other, but also four of the NCAA’s best coaches in Coach K, Kansas’ Bill Self, Kentucky’s John Calipari, and Michigan State’s Tom Izzo. Expect some wonderful early-season action when this event kicks off later this fall.
