The city of Charlotte has had NBA basketball since 1988, when the Hornets entered the league. Charlotte had the Bobcats for a period of time, but the Hornets returned to the league for a second time in 2014. During the collective history of the club, there have been a ton of excellent players who have brought unique talents to the game to make for an attractive style of play that has spanned decades.

In the early 1990s, the team saw one of the most successful periods in its history, thanks in large part to a dynamic duo. Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning teamed up to perform at a very high level for the Hornets, thanks to their complementary skill sets. Johnson was good at being physical and scoring from the outside at the same time. Mourning, meanwhile, was one of the best interior defenders in league history. His shot blocking ability combined with his rebounding skills made the Hornets elite defensively.

As far as rivals go, the Hornets and Miami Heat are a logical pairing due to how close together the two teams are. And when you consider that the Heat got the better of their trade to bring in Alonzo Mourning, some animosity from the Hornets would be understandable. With both teams in the Southeast Division, there are plenty of chances for the Heat and Hornets to get the better of each other on the floor.
