Chicago White Sox Details
Tired of the Cubs stealing all the headlines in the Windy City, the White Sox went out in the offseason and made moves to work towards winning their first World Series since 2005. The Sox traded Chris Sale and Adam Eaton in the offseason, and the team loaded up on young talent in those deals. They acquired two of the top prospects in baseball in Yoan Moncada and Lucas Giolito, and both guys are expected to have dynamite careers with Chicago. Moncada has long been one of the more exciting prospects in the world, and he will finally have a shot to put it all together with the Sox. There might not be a better manager than Rick Renteria to help him do that. Renteria is a former player, and he knows the buttons to push with a guy like Moncada. He was brought in for his ability to develop youth, and he should get results faster than expected.
It’s not all about development for this team, though. The White Sox still have guys like Jose Abreu, Todd Frazier, Melky Cabrera and Tim Anderson in the lineup. Abreu and Frazier are two of the better power hitters in the American League, as evidenced by their combined 130 homers over the past two seasons. Both Cabrera and Anderson, meanwhile, know how to get on base as well as anyone. Anderson was only a rookie last season, but he performed at a high level and earned a nice six-year contract extension. Chicago also has promising arms in Jose Quintana, Carlos Rodon and David Robertson. Quintana and Rodon are ready to break out any day now, and Robertson has been one of the game’s best closers for years. There might be a lot of youth in town, but fans are going to see a dangerous White Sox team at Guaranteed Rate Field this year.
