Chris Martin tells "Ghost Stories" (Updated 06/12/2014)
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is making headlines these days, but more of the paparazzi variety than for his music.
Martin, who recently separated from wife Gwyneth Paltrow after 10 years of marriage, ended up splashed across the tabloids when the couple deemed the split a "conscious uncoupling." Around the same time, Paltrow reportedly filed a restraining order against a stalker, but mentioned her husband as a fellow "protected person," likely revealing that they are both still living together.
A few months later, their separation appears to be the most amicable split in Hollywood. Paltrow and Martin not only remain close friends and completely devoted parents, they're constantly spotted on what almost look like casual date nights. (Though this prompted rumors of a reunion between the pair, Martin was recently spotted having dinner with pop star Rihanna).
Coldplay's new album, "Ghost Stories," was released on May 19th and is said to be a concept album that tells the story of a man going through a dramatic and sudden breakup. The album's central theme is said to be "opening yourself up to love and realizing love does not last forever." It was recorded by the band throughout 2012 and 2013 at a studio in London, England. The project features guest producers Avicci, Timbaland and Madeon, in addition to frequent collaborator Jon Hopkins.
Martin recently took the stage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday, May 31. He performed with Peter Gabriel, and is also on the road with Coldplay as part of six-date promotional tour in support of the new album. The band has upcoming dates at the Tokyo Dome City Hall on June 12, the Enmore Threatre in Sydney on June 19 and at the Royal Albert Hall in London on July 1.
Meet Coldplay's leading man (Created July 11, 2013)
Blonde-haired, blue-eyed poster boy Chris Martin is the lead vocalist, pianist, guitarist and all- around IT man of the British rock band Coldplay. Living every lad's dream? Undoubtedly. And it's not just because of his superstar status on the world stage.
Martin's upbringing, by all accounts, was undoubtedly normal. As the son of an accountant and a teacher, he was educated at the Sherbourne School in Devon, and later at University College London, where he pursued Ancient World Studies. But it was a meeting with Will Champion, Guy Berryman and Jonny Buckland in those first few weeks at university that pushed young Chris into something much bigger. That's right … those boys started a band.
It wasn't long before Coldplay (which was originally known as Starfish) was landing gigs at local venues, including the Manchester Festival In The City. Next came a record deal, and suddenly Coldplay was the embodiment of Brit Pop. Five albums later, Martin continues to steer a band that is fiercely independent and marches to the beat of its own drum.
Martin's celebrity extends also into other areas, including film and television. He made cameo appearances in movies "Shaun of the Dead" and "Zombie," and in the TV comedy "Extras." His other 'free time' is often take up by charitable endeavors, such as the "12 12 12 Concert" which was held as a fundraiser for Hurricane Sandy relief.
Martin is married to actress Gwyneth Paltrow, and their first child, Apple, was born in the summer of 2004. In April 2006, Gwyneth gave birth to a baby boy in Los Angeles. The couple named the child Moses.
