Cirque du Soleil: Amaluna Details

Amaluna is a Cirque du Soleil experience that combines a mythological romance with the acrobatic spectacle and whimsical storytelling that only Cirque can provide. Inspired by Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Amaluna puts a female spin on a classic tale of forbidden love.

About Amaluna

Cirque du Soleil debuted Amaluna in April of 2012. The show is performed in Cirque du Soleil’s impressive portable Big Top, seating over 2,600 audience members.

Amaluna was first performed in Cirque du Soleil’s home of Montreal, Canada. The show then began touring around the world. With over a dozen acts, Amaluna has delighted audiences across the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America for years.

The Live Amaluna Experience

Amaluna is a truly magical and empowering experience. The female leads control the production with courage, ferocity, and passion. The show gives audience members an opportunity to tour an enchanting island peopled by goddesses and a unique cast of acrobats, dancers, and clowns.

You can expect a mesmerizing variety of acts and performances, including aerial straps, uneven bars, teeterboards, and cultural acts from all over the world. In one act, the Moon Goddess dives into a visually stunning bowl of water from an impossible height. In another, an entire company of dancers mesmerize onlookers with an Indonesian-inspired dance giving the illusion of a woman with a thousand arms.

Throughout the spectacle of Amaluna, star-crossed couple Miranda and Romeo must fight against mystical barriers and those who doubt their love. The result is a breathtaking two hour and ten minute production that will remain with audiences long after they leave the Big Top.

Notable Amaluna Performers

Amaluna’s cast of artists is comprised of majority female actors, acrobats, singers, and musicians. The show’s talented all-female band lends its raw, unexpected energy to each performance.

There are additional members of the support crew that tour with the production who work tirelessly to maintain sets, costumes, and the safety of all involved in the show.

The show’s director, Diane Paulus, is a celebrated theatre director from New York City. Though this is her first time partnering with Cirque du Soleil, she’s worked on a multitude of projects from Broadway musicals to critically acclaimed stage productions. Paulus has won multiple Tony Awards for her directing skills and made TIME Magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in 2014.
