Columbus Blue Jackets Details

Out of the Metropolitan Division, John Tortorella’s Columbus Blue Jackets had a phenomenal regular season in 2016-17. Finishing with 108 points, the Blue Jackets secured the third spot in the division behind Washington and Pittsburgh. In the first half of the season, Columbus went on an exciting win streak, securing 16 straight victories before finally falling to the Capitals. It was a level of play that fans had not seen or expected from this team, and it wasn’t duplicated consistently for the rest of the year. When the playoffs came around, Columbus both offensively and defensively, falling to the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 in the first round. Despite the disappointing playoff exit, the Blue Jackets had a successful season after missing the postseason in 2014-15 and 2015-16.

At home in Nationwide Arena, Columbus fans will be expecting continued success in 2017-18. With a starting goaltender in Sergei Bobrovsky, opponents shouldn’t be scoring much against the Blue Jackets. Bobrovsky finished 2016-17 with a 41-17-5 record and a 2.06 goals against average. He was a major reason why the team was 2nd in the NHL in goals against. Offensively, Columbus should be in for another good year. Most of the team’s weapons are returning including winger Cam Atkinson. Atkinson finished last year with 35 goals and 27 assists. Captain Nick Foligno returns as well after contributing 26 goals and 25 assists for the Blue Jackets last season. Columbus also made a blockbuster for winger Artemi Panarin, send Brandon Saad back to his old club in Chicago. Panarin brings a wicked slap shot and a lot of offensive prowess. He finished last season with 31 goals and 43 assists for the Blackhawks.
