NCAA Men's Basketball National Championship 2018
Since the first Division 1 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament back in 1939, the contest has been a long-standing tradition of upsets, bracket busters, and Cinderella stories. The Oregon Ducks won that inaugural tournament and that remains the only title held by the school. UCLA holds the record for most National Championships with 11, while Kentucky is behind the Bruins with eight total titles.
Flash forward to the present and the NCAA tournament continues to be an event filled with interesting storylines. Look no further than last season. 2016-17’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament was an exciting affair. The Michigan Wolverines made a solid run after being on the bubble for much of the season, coming within a point of beating the Oregon Ducks in the third round. Villanova faltered a year after winning the championship, losing in the second round to Wisconsin. South Carolina made an unexpected visit to the Final Four, riding its brand of lockdown defense past strong teams like Duke and Florida. The tourney culminated in the North Carolina Tar Heels making a second straight visit to the National Championship game and taking home the title with a 71-65 win over the Gonzaga Bulldogs. UNC bounced back after a heartbreaking buzzer-beater loss in the 15-16 title game against Villanova.
The NCAA tournament always proves to be entertaining, and 2017-18’s tournament is shaping up to be the same. This coming season’s Final Four will take place on March 31, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas, with the National Championship game on April 2, 2018. Taking place in San Antonio’s Alamodome, the 65,000-seat arena will be home to the college sports’ most exciting championship.
