NCAA Tournament 2018: West Regional
This year's NCAA Tournament West Regional will be played at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on March 22 and March 24. Pepperdine University is the host at the Staples Center for the third time in six years. Stapes Center is the home of the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, as well as the NHL's Los Angeles Kings.
Memorable West Regional Moments
The West Regional has been the site of some memorable games in its history. One of the most noteworthy was the number 1 seeded UCLA Bruins' battle with the University of Missouri in the 1995 tournament. With 4.8 seconds left on the clock, UCLA point guard Tyus Edney sprinted down the court for the game-winning layup as time expired. The Bruins advanced, and would go in to win their first national championship in 20 years.
Last year, the 2017 West Regional was the site of some equally exciting games. Xavier, an 11 seed, continued its memorable tournament run by taking down number 2 seed Arizona. Guard Trevon Bluiett scored 25 points as the Musketeers advanced to their third Elite Eight appearance. Top-seeded Gonzaga was the best team in the region, however, and made a trip to Phoenix for the final four after defeating West Virginia and Xavier.
