Florida State Seminoles Football Details
There really aren’t many college football teams that have enjoyed the same success as Florida State has. The Seminoles have won three national championships in program history (1993, 1999, 2013), and the school has taken home 18 conference titles as well. The Seminoles play their home games at Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium, which seats 79,560 fans. This venue gets extremely loud on gamedays, and that isn’t going to change as long as head coach Jimbo Fisher is around. Fisher is one of the best coaches in the nation, as evidenced by his 78-17 record with the Seminoles heading into 2017. Fisher was steering the ship when FSU won the national title in 2013, and has a great shot at winning another before his time in Tallahassee comes to an end.
While the Seminoles lost running back Dalvin Cook to the NFL, the team should be fine with Cam Akers and Jacques Patrick working out of the backfield. Both players are dynamic in their own ways, and the Seminoles should once again have one of the best running games in the country. This team will also have one of the best passing attacks in the ACC, too. Under center for Florida State is once again Deondre Francois, and he was electric as a freshman in 2016. Francois threw for 3,350 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven picks last year, and he also rushed for over 50 yards in three games. He is capable of beating opponents with both his arm and his legs, and it wouldn’t be shocking if he took home a Heisman Trophy before his college career is over. Defensively, Florida State might be as good as any team in the country. This unit is loaded with talent, but the guys that really stand out are Derwin James and Tarvarus McFadden. James missed most of last season, but he is healthy now and out to prove that he is one of the nation’s best defensive players. He is going to make plays all over the secondary, but he’ll also get after the quarterback. That’s something that defensive end Josh Sweat has no trouble doing, either.
