Is Grandaddy really celebrating more than two decades in the music business? It's hard to believe this indie rock outfit from Modesto, California has been around since 1992, and still riding high from its 2012 reunion.
Yes, it's true. The band is back together again. Jason Lytle, Kevin Garcia, Aaron Burtch, Jim Fairchild and Tim Dryden are once again making the rounds as one cohesive unit. They made it official in March 2012, and began playing a limited number of shows some months later, including London on September 4 and headlining the End of the Road Festival in the UK and the Rock en Seine Festival in Paris. Once they came back across the pond, they entertained everywhere from San Francisco's Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival to the Partisan in Merced, California. The official run lasted from August 8th to September 4th.
Though live shows following the band's reunion weren't exactly in the works, they came together without a hiccup. Lytle has also talked about recording a new Grandaddy album, which would be their fifth studio project and the first since "Just Like the Fambly Cat" in 2006. That's nearly a decade removed from the band's creative breakthrough with 1997's acclaimed full-length "Under the Western Freeway."
Grandaddy recently reissued their first three albums on vinyl. They are "The Sophtware Slump," "Sumday" and the aforementioned "Under the Western Freeway." And, in the spirit of reviving long lost art, their website says they've also resurrected popular Grandaddy shirts form the past. Get 'em while they last, and keep an ear out for the possibility of more Grandaddy live shows in 2014.
