Kenny Chesney Details
Not every musician is born with a guitar in their hands, and that was certainly not the case with Kenny Chesney. While he was always a music fan, he didn’t start performing himself until he was a marketing major at East Tennessee State University. He put in the work and played local bars and restaurants, building up enough experience until he thought he was ready to pull the trigger and move to Nashville. Two years after the move, in 1993, he released his debut album In My Wildest Dreams on a record label that shut down soon after its release. Still, while the album never charted, he managed to sell 100,000 copies, and he slowly worked his way to the top of the country music scene. His next four albums charted at 39, 9, 10 and 5 on the US Country chart.
It was in the 2000s, though, when Chesney became a country music superstar. 2002’s No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems topped not only the US Country chart but the US chart for all genres. Since then, all 10 albums he has released topped the US Country chart and peaked at least as high as third on the US chart. Along the way, singles like “The Good Stuff,” “Don’t Blink” and “American Kids”—among many others—have dominated the country airwaves. Most recently he released the album Cosmic Hallelujah in fall 2016 after finishing up his Spread the Love Tour, for which he brought along big-name openers like Sam Hunt and Miranda Lambert.
