Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. in 1982 in New Orleans, is a successful American rapper, singer, and songwriter. Lil Wayne started his career at a young age, writing his first rap song at just eight-years-old. His love of rap only grew from there and, though he was an honors student, Lil Wayne dropped out of school at the age of 14 to pursue his career in music.

Three years later, at just 17 years old, Lil Wayne released his first solo album titled “The Block is Hot.” The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and was later certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). From there, his career skyrocketed. Lil Wayne has since worked with Young Money, Weezer and even Madonna. In 2005, Lil Wayne founded the record label Young Money Entertainment, which has released No. 1 albums from top artists including Drake and Nicki Minaj. It wasn’t until 2008 that Lil Wayne earned his first Grammy win. In fact, he didn’t just take home one award that year – he snagged four of them! His wins included Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song. He also performed on stage that same year, alongside M.I.A., T.I., Jay Z and Kanye West.
