Book a trip to the Windy City for Lollapalooza, a multi-day fest that draws more than 160,000 people to Chicago’s Grant Park every summer. Founded by Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Farrell in 1991, the festival began as a farewell tour for the band until it finally concluded 1997. It was resurrected in 2003, and after some financial woes was reimagined into the weekend-long celebration that it is today. The event boasts a slew of amazing alternative artists, from Eminem to Nine Inch Nails, Arcade Fire to Radiohead. In 2010 the fest expanded outside of the United States, with events in Chile, Brazil and South America. Although it’s a no-camping festival, attendees will have countless accommodations with Chicago as their playground. Headliners for the 2017 edition, slated for August 3-6, are still to-be-announced.
