Los Angeles Dodgers Details

The Dodgers were a founding member of the National League and played for the first time in 1883. The team got its start in Brooklyn, where they played at the famous Ebbets Field. Jackie Robinson, who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier and became the first black player in the major leagues, played his whole career for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1947-1956). Robinson’s number 42 is honored by every major league team.

By the late 1950s, the Dodgers were looking for a new home to replace the aging Ebbets Field. They were not able to get a stadium built in New York, so the Dodgers moved across the country to Los Angeles for the 1958 season.

The Dodgers — including both the Brooklyn and Los Angeles incarnations — have won 23 National League Pennants and six World Series titles. Their most recent World Series championship came in 1988 under manager Tommy Lasorda.

The Dodgers and Astros combined for an MLB record 25 home runs in the 2017 World Series, setting an MLB record. The Astros ultimately defeated the Dodgers in seven games.

The San Francisco Giants are currently the most popular team in 45 California counties, while the Dodgers are the top team in 11 CA Counties. That said, the Dodgers’ counties are much more dense from a population standpoint -- they rank third overall for that statistic, compared to ninth for the Giants.
