LSU Tigers Football Details

It’s an exciting time to be a Tigers fan, as LSU now has a coaching staff that everybody in Baton Rouge can believe in. Ed Orgeron is the new head coach after thriving in an interim role last year, and the team has some of the best coordinators in the nation with Matt Canada leading the offense and Dave Aranda in charge of the defense. It seems as though the tools are in place for this LSU team to compete for the fourth national title in program history. It also helps the Tigers that they have some of the best fans in the nation. Death Valley has long been regarded as one of the toughest places to play, especially at night. Opposing teams know that evening games in Tiger Stadium could turn south in a hurry.

One player that will do everything he can to help LSU win a national championship is Derrius Guice. While Leonard Fournette was a Heisman Trophy candidate throughout his college career and also ended up being picked fourth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, Guice was the most productive running back on the team in 2016. He rushed for 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns a season ago, and will only be more effective now that this is his team. The Tigers also have the quarterback position stabilized for the first time in a while, as Danny Etling is their man under center. A Purdue transfer, Etling was excellent once he took over the job in 2016 and does just enough to keep opposing defenses honest. With the threat of the pass looming, Guice doesn’t need to run against stacked boxes. Defensively, Dave Aranda runs one of the most dangerous units in the country. The Tigers will get after the quarterback as much as possible, and defensive end Arden Key is the one that stands out in that regard. Key could be the top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and he is truly something to watch when he gets a full head of steam.
