Mean Girls Details

Cady Heron, played by Lindsay Lohan, is the main character of the hit movie Mean Girls which debuted in April of 2004. The movie was so popular that it's now been made into a Broadway show. The plot revolves around Cady, a new girl at the local high school, who is trying to fit in and make friends. Cady is originally from Africa where she was homeschooled, and has never known life in suburbia. She soon falls in with a crowd known as the "the Plastics" and, from there, the plot takes off. These three "Plastic" girls feed off of the misfortunes of others and they soon adopt Cady as one of their own. Mean Girls is a timeless (and hilarious) story of loyalty, friendship, and betrayal - all wrapped into an entertaining plot that still amuses folks to this day.

With signature lines like, "That's so fetch!" and "Is butter a carb?", Mean Girls became a pop culture phenomenon that folks still often reference to this day. From Mean Girls Halloween costumes to Mean Girls-themed parties, this movie has a following unlike any other. Whether you choose to wear pink on Wednesdays or not, Mean Girls is both an unforgettable film and, now, musical.

The screenplay was written by award-winning actress and comedienne Tina Fey, who also stars in the movie. Other film cast members included Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, Amy Poehler, and Lacey Chabert. Mean Girls went on to earn these actors several awards, including Lindsay Lohan's win for MTV Movie Award for Best Female Performance. Rachel McAdams also took home the award for MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance - Female.

Mean Girls the musical is directed by Casey Nicholaw of Aladdin and The Book of Mormon and is composed by Jeff Richmond of 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The show originally had its world-premiere run at The National Theatre in D.C. in October of 2017 where it had great success.

While the musical isn't word for word like the movie, all of the must-have lines are included. Cady and Regina, of course, remain the stars and the actors who have been cast for the show are all spot-on. According to a review of the Mean Girls musical in USA Today, "there are fresh content jokes and storylines, and mentions of Instagram and technology that didn't exist in the early 2000s" so the show doesn't feel stale. That said, most of the jokes are timeless anyway!
