Metallica is widely known as one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time, and they sure know how to put on a show for their fans. Metallica has won six Grammy Awards for “Best Metal Performance”, one for “Best Rock Instrumental Performance”, and one for “Best Hard Rock Performance”. The group came together in an “old school” fashion, as drummer Lars Ulrich only met James Hetfield (vocalist/guitarist) because of an ad he posted in the newspaper. If Hetfield never picked up the paper on that day in 1981 then the world would be deprived of some pretty awesome headbangers.
As for the songs the band can perform, the list goes on and on. Metallica has released 10 killer projects: Kill ‘Em All in 1983, Ride the Lightning in 1984, Master of Puppets in 1986, …And Justice for All in 1988, Metallica in 1991, Load in 1996, Reload in 1997, St. Anger in 2003, Death Magnetic in 2008, and Hardwired…to Self-Destruct in 2016. The most recent release was a two-disc album, and they’ll definitely perform some of the hits from that record. That would include songs like “Hardwired” and “Moth Into Flame”. Metallica will also likely perform older hits like “Nothing Else Matters”, “The Unforgiven”, “Master of Puppets”, and “One”. But it’s impossible to imagine the band not performing “Enter Sandman”, which has become one of the most popular songs in sports stadiums since its release in 1991. Future Hall of Fame closer Mariano Rivera came out to that song throughout his Yankees career, but fellow closer Billy Wagner will argue that he used it first.
Below is a list of songs included in the Metallica setlist. The setlist for individuals shows is subject to change, but these are some songs that Metallica commonly plays at concerts.
- Atlas, Rise!
- For Whom the Bell Tolls
- The Unforgiven
- Now That We're Dead
- Master of Puppets
- Nothing Else Matters
- Enter Sandman
